The yarn I designed this project in is a beautiful jersey cotton that feels different to anything else in the book. It gives a smooth texture so it's perfect for a whale! Although I'd recommend the jersey cotton you could use a yarn made from a different fibre as long as it has the same tension.
MY RECOMMENDED YARNS
Rico - Fashion Jersey. This is a 50g ball with 80m (87 yards) per ball. This yarn is made of cotton (64%) and nylon (36%). This is my top recommendation for this project. You'll need
2 x main colour, 1 x contrast colour, 1 x strap colour.
OTHER YARNS
Willow Yarns - Cub. This yarn has a different fibre make up but it does have the same tension. It's made of cotton (60%) and acrylic (40%). The meterage (yardage) is different and for each ball of the Rico Fashion Jersey you'll need 1.14 balls of the Willow Yarns Cub.
Scheepjes - Bloom. This yarn is made of 100% cotton, so it will feel different to the Rico Fashion Jersey. It has the same tension and comes in 80m (87 yard) per 50g balls.
KNITTING NEEDLES
6mm (US 10) needles. I recommend using bamboo or plastic.
